BL T Brothers, Inc. is a very successful logging operation that ships hard and soft woods to papers mills in Augusta and Savannah, Georgia. They have been an LE customer since 1985. Larry Pennington is the principal owner .

This operation uses a variety of logging equipment: one 1996 Timberjack 450C; one 1994 model Timberjack 450C; one 1994 model 4100 Prentice hydraulic loader; one 1987 Caterpillar log skidder; one 1984 Caterpillar 060 dozier; one 1996 735SL Timberjack tracked shovel; and one 1993 Ronen cut-down machine.

Hardwood logging in the swampy areas of Georgia is probably one of the most severe environments that equipment can be subjected to. The transmissions and torque converters on the Caterpillar and Timberjack log skidders were running hot and overhauls were frequent-6,000-7,000 hours. Annual operating hours on this equipment average 2,800 to 3,000 hours.

In January of 1985, LE Representative Siegfried Von Schweinitz recommended LE's 704 MONOLEC Gear Lubricant for the transmissions and LE's 7500 MONOLEC Power Fluid for the torque converters on these pieces of equipment.

After installing these two LE products, the initial observation was an overall reduction in frictional heat in both applications.

Recommended oil changes were 1,000 hours by the manufacturer of the equipment. However, because of the reduction in frictional heat, and the smoother operation of the equipment after installing LE products, a drain interval of 4,000 to 5,000 hours was set. One 1987 Caterpillar log skidder was taken out of service at 13,500 hours for maintenance. Mr. Pennington decided to check the transmissions while the skidder was in the shop. The transmission was so clean that the mechanic was curious about what oil was being used.

The use of LE's 7500 had saved one transmission overhaul and many gallons of lubricant were saved due to extended drain intervals.

LE's 2300 L-X Heavy-Duty Chemical Supplement is being used to combat moisture problems in the fuel. LE's 3752 ALMAGARD Vari-Purpose Lubricant is being evaluated as a general grease. LE's 8800 MONOLEC UL TRA Engine Oil has recently been installed in the Ronen cut-down machine. Results are being monitored.

We would like to thank Larry Pennington, Owner and LE Representative Siegfried Von Schweinitz for providing the information to prepare this report.
