6404 MONOLEC® R&O COMPRESSOR/TURBINE OIL BERTRAM YACHT INC., Miami, Florida  Worthington Compressor Operating temperature dropped substantially Reduced condensation Reduced oil consumption CUSTOMER PROFILE Bertram Yacht is a division of the Ferretti Group located in Miami, Florida. They manufacture various models of offshore deep salt water fishing vessels, as well as luxury yachts. APPLICATION Bertram uses a 100 HP Worthington single stage, horizontal, heavy-duty air compressor. AREA OF INTEREST Maintenance Superintendent Hans Kux said several years ago they were experiencing frequent  shutdowns to remove heavy carbon build-up in their Worthington air compressor. With the previous commercial grade oil, the drip rate was four drops per minute, carbon deposits were so heavy and hard that the compressor had to be torn down at least twice a year. The valves had to be hammered out and carbon chipped from the valve assemblies. This caused many hours of downtime and labor costs. LE SOLUTION LE 6404 MONOLEC® R&O Compressor/Turbine Oil was recommended by the local LE Lubrication Consultant. LE 6404 offers excellent oxidation resistance, separates readily from water and protects against corrosive wear. It is extrememly long lasting and nonfoaming in service. It contains MONOLEC®, LE’s exclusive wear-reducing additive. CUSTOMER COST SAVINGS After the conversion to LE 6404, maintenance personnel noticed that the discharge heat dropped substantially, there was a reduction in condensation, and inspections are only required once a year. The drip rate was also reduced to two drips per minute. OTHER PRODUCTS USED Bertram Yacht Inc. use numerous makes and models of forklifts, marine travel lifts, high reaches, air compressors, and air tools. They also have an assembly line using overhead cranes & rail tracks and a complete machine shop. LE products they utilize include: • 2001 MONOLEC® Wire Rope Lubricant • 2059 MONOLEX® Penetrating Oil & Lubricant • 3752 ALMAGARD® Vari -Purpose Lubricant • 6401 MONOLEC® R&O Compressor/Turbine Oil • 6120 MONOLEC® Hydraulic Oil • 8440 MONOLEC® GFS Engine Oil LE 6120 MONOLEC® Hydraulic Oil eliminated hydraulic fade experienced with the previous commercial grade oil in the travel lifts. Wheel bearing failures went from every two months to every two and a half years using LE 3752 ALMAGARD® Vari-Purpose Lubricant. Hans Kux stated, “From my past 40 years experience in this business, I know of no better lubricants than those offered by Lubrication Engineers.” Lubrication Engineers Inc. would like to thank Maintenance Superintendent Hans Kux, and LE Lubrication Consultant Jon Toth for the information provided to prepare this report.
