8450 MONOLEC® GFS ENGINE OIL B & P Racing, Anaheim, CA Bearings CUSTOMER PROFILE B & P Racing is located in Anaheim, CA. They campaign a 1966 Chevrolet Nova Super Sport drag racer in the 9.90 class. They have been an LE customer for seven years. APPLICATION This car competes at national and local drag races. The Nova, a top contender, has always qualified in the top 16 at Nationals, and frequently a winner. AREA OF INTEREST While using a specialty grade racing oil, they were experiencing excessive wear on the cam, the main bearings and rod bearings. LE SOLUTION The engine is a Chevrolet 454 cu. in. In June of 1990, after a rod bearing spun, LE Representative Bob Stewart recommended LE's 8450 MONOLEC GFS Engine Oil. LE's 8450 is formulated for heavy-duty service in both gasoline and diesel engines. It is made from select paraffinic base oils and contains MONOLEC®, LE's exclusive wear-reducing additive. CUSTOMER COST SAVINGS The engine runs cooler with LE's 8450, and it was noted that the oil pressure increased, giving better engine protection. With LE's 8450, one oil change will last for an entire racing season. The Nova runs 10 plus runs per meet and 30 plus meets a season. LE's 8450 protects the engine during pre-run burnouts, and under the most severe stress during the run at rpms in excess of 7000. Here is additional information about the 1966 Chevrolet Nova Super Sport and the other quality LE products that are used to keep it tops in its class. The transmission is a highly modified TCI Power-Glide incorporating a 186 low gear. A custom torque converter with a very high stall speed is used. LE's 7500 MONOLEC® Power Fluid is used to protect the transmission and torque converter, and Paul Alabab said that he could feel a big difference with LE's 7500 over the commercial grade transmission fluid they were previously using. They cut one-half second off of their overall elapsed time through the quarter. They turn under 9.40 seconds in the quarter mile. The rearend, a narrowed Ford 9" with a solid spool center (differential and spider gear removed) is manufactured by Strang Manufacturing Company. While using a commercial grade gear lubricant, they were experiencing pinion bearings and ring gear failures. The oil would leave the pinion and ring gears, turning the ring and pinion blue from lack of lubrication. This lead to eventual failure. The rearend is now protected with LE's 605 ALMASOL® Vari-Purpose Gear Lubricant. This gear lubricant was installed in June of 1990, and they have experienced no failures to date.
