UNDERSTANDING ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION
FEATURED PRODUCT:
8530 MONOLEC SPB Engine Oil (SAE 5W-30)
Lubrication Engineers' 8530 MONOLEC SPB
Engine Oil is made from a high-quality
blend of synthetic and paraffinic base oils to
improve oxidation stability and cold start-ups in
passenger car and light duty truck gasoline engines.
It is formulated with LE's exclusive wear-reducing
additive MONOLEC, which creates a single molecular
layer across the metal surface, vastly increasing
film strength without affecting tolerances. It is
optimized to exceed the energy conserving
performance requirements of API and ILSAC Starburst
engine oils. Benefits of the 8530 MONOLEC include:
- Reduced Oil Consumption:
Oxidation inhibitors are combined with select
synthetic and paraffinic base oils to give longer
service life without excessive thickening or deposit
formation, resulting in extended drain intervals.
- Outstanding Wide Temperature Range
Performance: Superior pour point
depressants allow 8530 MONOLEC to flow at sub-zero
temperature for all-season performance. Its
excellent oxidation resistance protects against high
temperature degradation. 8530 MONOLEC also contains
a shear-stable viscosity modifier to span the SAE
5W-30 viscosity grade.
- Extended Service Life of the Engine:
Foam suppressants provide a continuous film of
lubricant protection, lower oxidation rate and
superior heat transfer. Rust and corrosion
inhibitors ensure an impervious film to isolate
metal from water.

Understanding Engine Oil Consumption
The amount of oil consumed varies tremendously from
engine to
engine, make, and driving style. For example, a
Cummins engine with 15,000 or 20,000 miles with
properly sealed rings will range in consumption from
250 miles to as high as 800 miles per qt. The reason
for this variation is because of the range of their
piston ring specifications. If an engine has "soft"
rings, consumption will be higher in comparison with
engine with all "hard" rings. If the normal mix of
hard and soft rings exists, the consumption will be
somewhere in the middle.
A carefully driven passenger car should use between
a pint and a quart in 1000 miles. However, a large
truck operated at a good rate of speed may use 3 or
4 quarts of oil in a 1000 mile run, and this would
still not be considered excessive consumption. There
are two ways that crankcase oil can be consumed:

CUSTOMER TESTIMONIAL:
8530 MONOLEC SPB ENGINE OIL
"This is the finest engine oil I've ever used."
The
City of Colonial Heights' Vehicle Maintenance Shop
takes care of 266 pieces of moblie equipment,
including 70 police cruisers (Ford Crown Victorias
and Chevrolet Impalas). Using commercial grade
engine oil resulted in oil drains of only 2,000
miles, due to severe use of the police cruisers. The
maintenance manager was looking to find an engine
oil that would safely extend his oil drain
intervals. The manager decided to test LE's
8530 MONOLEC SPB Engine Oil in several
cruisers. The change was evident, as the cruisers
immediately experienced excellent cold "start-ups".
They also began to run cooler, and maintained
constant oil pressure. Along with this, the fuel
efficiency of the cruisers was increased by 2.7% on
average. The most amazing benefit however,
was that the oil drain interval was extended from
2,000 miles to 10,000 miles, which resulted in a 33%
saving on the cost of engine oil, along with less
expense for waste oil disposal and oil filters.
